The
Sturdy Beggars play Irish traditional songs and tunes and feature some of best
musicians from Manchester's Irish community.
The core line-up is:
Seamus Curley: vocal, guitar
Mat Walklate: flute, harmonica, whistle, uilleann pipes, vocal
Andrew Dinan: fiddle
We often work as a bigger band with Cormac Byrne: bodhran and Anthony Haller:
double bass and we can add any other traditional instruments as required.
The band has played at countless weddings and other functions over the past
five years and on many occasions we employ the services of the North-West's
best caller, Ralph Smethurst to organise traditional country dancing. Ralph
never fails to fill the dance floor, especially at weddings.
Some of the songs in our repertoire:
Star of the County Down
The Rare Old Mountain Dew
I'll Tell Me Ma
Sally MacLennane
Dirty Old Town
Ride On
The Fields Of Athenry
Dublin In The Rare Old Times
The Town I Loved So Well
The Irish Rover
